how I approach therapy

Given that the therapy relationship is the number one predictor of change during treatment, I value building a trusting, warm, and non-judgmental relationship with my clients. It is my hope that you will feel my compassion and understanding, while also feeling challenged to explore new ways of thinking and feeling. I often use humor during session, but prioritize diving deeper into areas that are causing you suffering. We will work as a team to develop treatment goals that fit your life and context. I am anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming, and value discussing all aspects of your identity when approaching therapy.

types of therapy provided

I take an integrative approach using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a treatment that identifies difficulties with how we think about things and how that may affect our behavior (what we do) and emotions (how we feel).

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a treatment that fosters acceptance of our innermost thoughts and feelings and a commitment to moving in a direction of our values. It emphasizes acknowledging our difficult thoughts and feelings, rather than trying to deny them, and changing our reaction to those thoughts.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a treatment that emphasizes mindfulness and distress tolerance for our intense and, at times, overwhelming emotions.

education & training

I completed my doctorate at Loyola University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland, graduating with a PsyD (doctor of psychology) in clinical psychology. I completed both a pediatric psychology internship and fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

I was largely trained in child and pediatric psychology and worked in general and children’s hospitals. Although most of my therapy patients were children and adolescents, I noticed I was often working with parents on their own anxieties and parenting strategies. I frequently counseled parents on their own childhood, discussing how their own experience impacted the way in which they parented their children. These experiences, along with my own experiences with pregnancy and parenting, changed my career trajectory and motivated me to obtain further training in perinatal mental health.

about me

I live in Dayton, Ohio with my husband and two kids. I enjoy trashy reality television, running, and chai tea.
